Work no Play
Jun. 12th, 2007 01:01 amAt the moment I'm working to pay off recent heavy expenses, so doing tedious commissions for people I have zilch in common with. I can enjoy this to a very small degree as an exercise in applying paint, but even that is limited by confines of acceptable (tame) style.
People generally do not 'get' deviations from the norm either in subject matter or its treatment, unless its something they've seen often before. I REALLY want to experiment with ideas of making the figure look as tho its 'cut out' from its background...part of it, but also lifted out of it...like a schism in reality which one experiences that's like deja-vu.
However I can't apply any of that to ordinary portraits, least of all those I'm being paid bread + butter (or new engine plus diesel!) money to do.

I wonder what Thoth would advise?
