Somehow or another i wound up retelling the tale of Jude The Obscure, a book for which i have no great reverence, to two who hadn't read it--Andy up north, on 'speaker phone, and Alan. Wish we hadn't driven Donna home already--it was a LOL night!
Who'd have thought ole Drudge Jude could be such a hoot, with his dreadful abuse by evil women and his perpendicular offspring.
If only he'd had a different Latin textbook from the start.
I'd an idea that deardeeliteful James Thurber made a cartoon on the subject, but I don't suppose his things are on cartoonstock.com. Good!
