Passed the lovely wind turbines out east this morning.
Double-check - yep, invented by a Scot, Andrew Meikle, from my neck of the woods in Perthshire too.
So that's the television, telephone, penicillin, road surface, refrigeration, pneumatic tyres, iron bridges, radar, microwave, breech-loading rifle, the steam engine, paraffin, modern economics, logarithms, polarisation, hypodermic needles, colloid chemistry, the decimal point --- i simply don't have time to list them ALL.

We Scots pretty much invented the modern world really.

(it does look a bit like he burnt his paws, it has to be said)

Poor Ida.

i just watched that programme about Ida the missing link; it had broken its paw so could not climb properly and had to forage about for food on the ground instead, where there were *volcanic gasses*.
Eventually this monkey got thirsty and went to drink out of a stream where it lost consciousness, fell in and drowned.
47 million years ago.

Aw.... the healed-over break can be seen, tho evidently it was not strong enough to climb with.
So - the very earliest story of a distant human - and it is A Cautionary Tale : /
