Slump = spark
May. 30th, 2009 09:30 amD'yknow i have a really good feeling about this recession; have lately become aware of more people than NOT who are sparking off in all sorts of good creative directions some of whom I KNOW are more focused, more positive than they ever were before.
Its like there's a new intention to hone in on one's creative strengths whilst frankly acknowledging the attraction of a coincidental commercial potential.
Re-examining Victorian attitudes to the arts suggests this attitude can be richly compatible with artistic merit and development.
At the same time, they took as read a thorough grounding in practical application eg nobody embarked on a visual arts career without spending 3 - 4 years in the life class.
(Yeah, personally i should have attended a LOT more of these*, but because i can actually draw anyway I sort of get away with it).
Writers, I'm not sure what the Victorian equivalent would have been -- an exhaustive study of all historic and contemporary styles, laid on a foundation of grammar and usage i sppose. Not my problem.
Anyway, its all good : D
