Dec. 3rd, 2009 07:01 amI'm v. interested in the contorted poses of the intertwined figures in medieval manuscript art and the (artistic) impetus that formed them; was it just the cold and discomfort that made men in less temperate regions draw figures interlaced like this? Were they reflecting contemporary treatment of humans by humans? And was there also a parallel inherent human satisfaction in imposing at least artistic control in forcing limbs and torsos to adhere to an unnatural, *mechanical* mould long before mechanics?
