I feel that I am on a journey with my artwork.
My goal is to develop a dynamic and expressive style of painting and couple it with subject matter that is strong and iconic, even verging on apocalyptic.
I am a member of Core Arts in Hackney, London, and there I engage in life drawing and portrait painting both of which fundamentally benefit these aims.
I use the human figure to express feelings such as claustrophobia and being under surveillance. The figures I paint are contorted to my personal interpretation of these and other similar subjects but they are grounded in an ongoing understanding of anatomy.
I use both acrylic and oil paint and the discipline of portrait painting has helped me to improve my technique as well as develop an identifiable style of painting which has been influenced by the work of Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon and Paula Rego amongst many others.
I strongly agree with the statement made by Mark Rothko in a New York Times interview in 1943: "There is no such thing as good painting about nothing".
