Dalek Eyes

It was an unexpected SHOCK to look straight into the eyes of a lion close up (inches). Somehow the reality gets lost in celluloid and digital reproduction and the immediate and, I suspect primeval fear those eyes engender is lost in translation.
Its like alchemy the way those deadly cold yellow eyes have become personable even in my own photos and I have vainly tried everything to see how/where this transformation happened.
The closest I can suggest is that you usually see the photographed eyes in some degree of shadow because of the jut of the brow bone. In reality one does not see shadow in this way, and often not at all. Its the starkness that surprises.
The other shock was as I've mentioned elsewhere, the abrupt, lightning reaction of these massive lumbering cats.
Respect - universa quod denique.

(NB It also occurred to me whilst cleaning out their dining quarters, that I was probably doing the same sort of thing as after events in the Colosseum)

.
With altered exposure -- (still nowhere close because of that persistant, veiling shadow at top of orb, and the darker specks that show up in it, which are also not noticeable in real life. It just appears as a an almost robotic pale yellow iris encircling the pupil).

I'll just have to paint it.
