Book of Bricks
Jun. 30th, 2009 05:17 amI've been PORING over the Book of Revelations! Srsly - the Brick Testaments have actually scored a direct hit.
Right now * I CANNOT THINK OF MORE APPOSITE SOURCE MATERIAL*
The timely arrival of such a hilarious, random and necessarily LITERAL exposition gives a sense of 'out of the mouths of babes'.
What clinched it was my coincidental rediscovery of this masterpiece in the Tate by Nigel Henderson. To me it's extremely prophetic in essence and could be inspired by exactly this kind of source. The use of close-up grainy photography in collage is DEAD ON, as is the aberrant, hunted physiognomy.
(Cold war) dread....

'Head of a Man' Nigel Henderson, 1956
Photograph on board, 1597 x 1216mm. Tate Britain
(can be seen in room 23, 'The Independent Group' of which Henderson was a founding member)
