Hong Kong airport incident
Apr. 14th, 2010 03:32 pmMy friend Alan Smyth, whom I uncharacteristically travelled with this year is, very characteristically more bemused than disconcerted by this strange behaviour on the part of the Chinese.
We don't know what to make of or do about it, but I think u'll agree it's a clear breach of human rights: -
Alan and I flew in together but got separated for a few hours. During that time we both went to airport security and left messages to meet up there or at Sha-Tin. (nb a whole other story = the way Security staff operate, as tho they are puppets of the overhead cameras). While Alan was walking thru the airport one of the Chinese armed security women, in surgical mask, walked straight up to him and suddenly raised her hand to his face and pushed his hat up. With some sort of device like a fountain pen she pressed the centre of his forehead, applied brief 'cold' pressure then disappeared back into the concourse. It was over in seconds, expertly done with no explanation whatsoever.
He checked a mirror as soon as possible, saw a faint red mark that faded without trace.
Fotos from HK Internat. - the first is on the way to the Baggage Hall (A.S. in panama).

NB there were quite a few people wearing surgical/hygiene masks over their faces in China where i visited, and also, less noticeably, in Japan, S Korea and Taiwan. Some notices with English translation warned of 'Swine Disease' but mostly the hygiene warnings did not specify. SARS was not seen to be mentioned *at all*.
