I've just had a phone-call from Alan...for the 2nd time in 3 years he has had money disappear from his account after visiting the local (Hackney) branch of the Abbey.
He went in there on the 3rd ONLY to pay in a cheque and his statement has just arrived with a £400 withdrawal on that date.
He still has his debit card etc ...nothing has been physically stolen from him, but someone has taken the money from his account AGAIN. Last time, he called in the police and there was a long investigation both by them and the Abbey itself at the end of which he was simply told that it had been "an internal incident" which the bank had now dealt with. The police were more forthcoming...they told him a bank employee had been withdrawing money from customers' accounts and had been arrested and charged.
And now, less than 14 months later its happened again!
That bank is ferociously PC and employs locals.
When does it have a DOH! moment and realise its not the best idea to put them within a mile of anyone's money?
